We experienced the phenomena of the RING OF FIRE! Blue skies, sunshine and warmth. It was perfect weather for an eclipse.
Our original plans were to drive over to Rakai's and then up to the old airport but when we realized there was a perfect view from Tonaquint Elementary we decided to go there instead. We called the boys and told them to come to us.
Asa was the driver and drove the Montero up the dirt road behind the school. We were on top of the hills and had an excellent view of the sky and Green Valley. It was pretty awesome. Ra got out and set up the chairs. Asa got out and lifted the hood of the car to check the oil while we waited for the boys to show up. I turned on the acoustic blues channel of Pandora Radio. Asa said, "mom it's like we are stranded in the middle of nowhere and dad's over there playing the blues on the guitar."
Ammon to the rescue! Blazing a trail of dust they pulled up in the toyota. They all climbed up on the mattress in the bed of the truck and we watched and waited for the RING OF FIRE. Excellent memory!

BIRTHDAY BOYS
It's that time of life when I go back in time and remember the "birth" days of Rakai and Asa. Rakai, my firstborn child and the many hours of labor. Asa, my 5th child and the fright of premature delivery. We are all still here.
Rakai was ordained a Deacon the Sunday after Asa was born. Asa and I couldn't go to church so the Bishop and Grandparents came to the house. It was a wonderful opportunity for Rakai.
So we celebrate Asa and Rakai during March. This year we had to take pictures in separate locations. Asa was wishing Rakai was home for a photo together but we had to do a collage instead. Hamilton tried to feed Rakai his cupcake through the computer. Silly boys!
Asa was ordained a Teacher today. He bore a wonderful testimony and talked about a scripture Isaac sent to him. D&C 103: 36 - "All victory and glory is brought to pass unto you through your diligence, faithfulness, and prayers of faith."
This is good advice from our missionary.

MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL
"As you pass through the Tower Gates, shed 1,000 years of time - pass into the world of the Middle Ages - to the days of Knights and chivalry, dragons and fair maidens awaiting rescue! Wander through the marketplace and gaze upon authentically attired tradesman and artisans, potters, blacksmiths, millers, carpenters, glass blowers all working their trade." So states the description of the "Days of Camelot" we attended yesterday. Asa experienced it first on Friday and insisted that I take him and Hamilton out on Saturday. We spent the day enjoying the middle ages.
Authentic period costumes, the sights, the sounds, the tastes...it was a very fun day. They ran the maze of the Dragon Dungeon and played live chess. We watched the tournament of horses and strolled through the merchant marketplace. The boys came away with a few swords and I came away with the memories.

Priesthood Authority
Asa was ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood last week. Today was his first day to pass the sacrament. He was very excited and scared at the same time. He looks great in his new suit and haircut. After church he collected for Fast Offereings. He's trying his best to be a responsible Deacon. Good Job Asa!

BIRTHDAY PHOTO UPDATE
OK! I finally have a second to work on the blog and update the birthday photo of Rakai and Asa. Yes the birthday cake was a few days late but we still did it and that's what counts. So now Rakai can officially be 24 and Asa can officially be 12. HORRAY!

Karate kicks and 3 pointers.
Earlier tonight Hamilton graduated from green belt...to green belt with a black stripe.
*[Hamilton just told me that it's called high green, and not green belt with black stripe.]
He got to show off the progress he's made, and do some sweet kicks. It was pretty exciting to watch.
He's got his eyes set on being a black belt!
Watch out!

After the many roundhouse kicks, air puches, and hi-yas! we rushed over to catch Asa's basketball game.
I'm convinced that someday he'll be pro! He had 3 shots around or behind the 3-point area [obviously I'm not up to par on my bball terms].. but he sunk each one! Sadly I didn't get it on film, but I have a feeling it's not the last time he'll pull that off.
He had the other parents cheering him on, and the other team in shock.
Go Asa!!

Basketball Season
Asa played his first game of the season on Friday night. His team is very good. Asa enjoys basketball and is very good at it. His first experience with basketball was with a coach he shot left handed. Asa followed his example and, even though he is right handed in everything, he shoots the basketball with his left hand. The final score of the games was very lopsided - 38 to 8. The coach of the other team was lots of fun to watch - always excited and happy even though they were losing terribly. After the game Asa went up to one of the players on the opposing team congratulated her on a good game and told her she played really well. So begins basketball now through the end of March.
Asa will be juggling basketball and soccer over the next few months. Should be an interesting season.
